uPVC windows are quoted per square foot, but two quotes for the 'same' window can differ widely. Here is what actually drives the price.
1. Window type
Sliding windows are usually the most economical per sq ft. Casement windows cost more due to hinges and multi-point locks, and tilt & turn windows more again because of their concealed hardware.
2. Profile series and reinforcement
Profile wall thickness, number of chambers and the steel reinforcement inside all affect strength and price. Thin profiles without proper reinforcement are cheaper but can sag and leak over time.
3. Glass
- Single toughened glass — base price
- Double-glazed units — more cost, much better heat and noise performance
- Laminated or Low-E glass — premium options for safety, acoustics or heat
4. Hardware
Handles, hinges, rollers and locks from established brands cost more but last longer and operate smoothly.
5. Size and colour
Very small windows cost more per sq ft because hardware is a fixed cost. Woodgrain or coloured laminates add to the price over white.
